Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. Patients with high blood sugar will typically experience polyuria (frequent urination), they will become increasingly thirsty (polydipsia) and hungry (polyphagia).

Diabetes affects more than your blood sugar; your limbs may ache, your feet may become hypersensitive and, inevitably, you’ll need more support. Foot problems can become a big risk. All people with diabetes should monitor their feet.

The Rules

Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain which comes from the Old Irish for "summer's end" (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. Samhain also marked the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or the 'darker half' of the year.

Halloween food is often viewed as sweet and unhealthy despite the fact that originally it was the end of harvest season. So we have decided to look to the harvest and bring you some Ghoulishly nutritious sporty snacks.

Did you know that Friday the 3rd of October was World Smile Day? The initiative was started by Harvey Ball a commercial artist who created the smiley face in 1963 and seeing his symbol being over commercialised went on to create World Smile Day on the first Friday in October every year to spread smiles and kind acts.

While every day should be a smile day we certainly like the initiative as a great reminder to be positive and help out others.

The idea for the day also got us thinking about the positives of exercise.  We have listed some of the positives but let us know if we missed some.

Here at FootBalance, of course we know the benefits of using custom molded and pre-molded footbeds in our adventures.
